Open Competition for the Mark and Slogan of the Tripoli candidacy, as a European Capital of Culture for the Year 2021

Slogan – Mark Design, Visual Identity – Synthetic Process

The logo draws its inspiration from the Greek sun, its reflection on the blue Greek sea, and the pleated folds of the traditional foustanella, interpreted as radiating sunbeams. Additional visual references include the fluting of ancient Greek columns, symbolizing rhythm, structure, and the interplay of light and shadow—elements deeply rooted in Greek cultural identity.

The color palette is simple and understated, based on the blue and white of the Greek flag, complemented by subtle grey tones used in parts of the typography. This minimal chromatic approach enhances clarity, cultural symbolism, and a contemporary aesthetic.

The resulting visual identity blends heritage, symbolism, and modern design, expressing Tripoli’s cultural narrative and its aspiration to be named the European Capital of Culture for 2021.
